World Models vs Game Engines: Who Wins?

After the release of Google's Project Genie, gaming stocks just had a bloodbath. Unity CEO Matt Bromberg posted a whole thread. Tim Sweeney (Epic Games / Unreal Engine) weighed in. And they're basically saying the same thing: world models aren't gonna replace game engines, they're gonna merge together. I tested Genie 3, broke down the CEO arguments, and figured out what's real versus hype. Genie's got insane capabilities: emergent physics, spatial consistency, working GPS without anyone programming it. The jump from Genie 2 to 3 in seven months was wild. But there's still a massive production gap. Determinism matters, physics can't behave differently every session. Object permanence, multiplayer synchronization, player progression, and economies Genie can't handle yet.
